About ‘We Share The Same Skies’

We Share The Same Skies is a multi-authored blog of hopeful ideas from West Yorkshire – from our region, for our region, dreaming that it’s the early days of a new regional democracy.

We aim to be a collaborative blog where ‘people without power’ can find and contribute ideas, information and news about the future of the region.

Whether based on the actions of individual citizens, organisations or businesses, on groups of citizens or networks of organisations or businesses, on town or parish councils, on local authorities, on city or county regions or on the increased powers that writers think should be held in future by an elected body for the whole region, we aim to record and critically analyse new politics in our region.

We want to ask:

• What kind of region do we want to live in?
• What good things are happening near us?
• Who should make the decisions that affect our lives?

The blog is co-ordinated by the Same Skies network. We would love to hear your ideas and we particularly encourage those who feel that their voice is as yet unheard. We were partially inspired by Scotland’s democratic renewal and the outstanding contribution of new media, including Bella Caledonia and Common Space, as well as Common Weal and its Book of Ideas. ‘We Share The Same Skies’ was the name of a 2009 single by Wakefield band The Cribs.
